Use Fast Lane in Maine
Speed Your Drive Through Maine with Fast Lane or E-ZPass

By , About.com Guide

I'm a big fan of the Fast Lane program. The Massachusetts Transportation Authority (MTA) offers this electronic toll payment system that has enabled me for years to speed my trips along the heavily traveled Massachusetts Turnpike.

Fast Lane (or the compatible E-ZPass transponder) will allow those of us who travel regularly in New England to go even farther faster now. On February 1, 2005, toll booths along the Maine Turnpike were equipped to accept electronic payment via Fast Lane or E-ZPass transponders.

If you already subscribe to Fast Lane or E-ZPass service, you're all set to drive to your Maine vacation destination without stopping at toll plazas and digging for exact change.

If you want to join the growing number of motorists who cruise through toll booths in Massachusetts, Maine, New York and many other states, the MTA makes it easy to sign up for Fast Lane online using a credit card. There is a fee for the transponder, and tolls are automatically deducted from an initial deposit to your Fast Lane account, which is automatically replenished when it drops below $10.

Visit the MTA Web site to learn more about how Fast Lane works, or call toll free, 888 525-3278, for more information or assistance with creating your account.
