When you envision a New England ski town, is this the scene you see? Then, you'll feel right at home at Cranmore Mountain in North Conway, New Hampshire.

North Conway, New Hampshire, isn't the only "ski town" in the Northeast, but it's the one that best matches what the mind's eye pictures: a main street filled with shops and restaurants in low-slung brick buildings, an inviting village green, white-steepled churches and--looming above it all--a mountain striped with ski runs.

That mountain is Cranmore Mountain, one of New England's most historic and family-friendly ski areas that--thanks to a recent infusion of cash from new owners--continues to expand and broaden its year-round appeal. A mountain coaster (think a mix between an alpine slide and a steel rollercoaster, minus the inverted loops), opened in 2010, was the first piece in a lineup of alternative attractions that expanded in 2011 to include a new adventure park with a zipline course, a giant swing, summer tubing at Cranmore's 10-lane snow-tube park, a bungy trampoline and an 18-hole disc golf course.

In 2013, Cranmore celebrates its 75th anniversary ski season with special events including a January 12 gala, Cranapalooza festivals on Saturday afternoons and fireworks on January 19, January 26, February 16, February 23 and March 2.
