Did you know that Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss, was a Springfield, Massachusetts, native? The beloved children's book author is celebrated at The Quadrangle in Springfield, where you'll find the Dr. Seuss National Memorial. Here are your New England Guide's favorite books by this imaginative and prolific writer.
As a child, I loved this story of Gerald McBoing Boing, who couldnt talk but could only make odd sounds. Dr. Seuss originally wrote the tale for an animated film, which won an Academy Award in 1951. The book version of the film was out of print for years, but, to my delight, it was reprinted in 2000, so I no longer have to rely on my fathers memory of the story he read to me as a tyke.
This book is subtitled, "Dr. Seuss's Book of Ridiculous Rhymes," and boy does that about capture it. This was one of my favorites when I was first learning to read. The illustrations of the fantastical creatures he describes give vivid life to these products of his very vivid imagination.
This is perhaps Dr. Seuss's best gift book for readers of all ages. Select it for someone who is graduating, moving away, facing a new challenge or who simply needs encouragement. It's the perfect gift for your favorite avid traveler, too!
You might not like green eggs and ham, but you won't be able to help liking this funny and fabulous book of rhyme penned by Dr. Seuss. This is probably one of the best read-aloud books to have in your Seuss library, and it would make a great gift for a baby shower or young child's birthday.
You've seen the animated cartoon and maybe even the live action movie. This Christmas, why not go retro and read aloud the original story written by Dr. Seuss in 1957? This holiday tale is loved to this day by all who believe in the transformative powers of love and joy.
