Sugar Pie Recipe: A French Canadian Recipe for Tarte Au Sucre (Sugar Pie)

The French Canadian influence in New England is particularly strong in Maine. Here is a recipe for Tarte Au Sucre--Sugar Pie--shared by Raymond Voisine.

  • 1 cup maple sugar
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tablespoon flour
  • 2 Tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 9-inch unbaked pie shell
  • Whipped cream or Cool Whip


Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. In a mixing bowl, combine the first six ingredients together. Pour into the pie shell and bake until golden brown, about 25 minutes. Remove from oven and cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Slice the pie into individual servings. Serve warm with real whipped cream or Cool Whip.
