A plaque on the ground near the Analemmatic Sundial at Tanglewood explains the workings of this unusual timekeeping device: "Find the location which corresponds to the current time of year on the 'Scale of Months' and stand at that place. Your shadow will fall towards the time of day for Eastern Standard Time."
