The flag outside Northampton's Hungry Ghost Bread boldly proclaimed, "Yes," which meant not only that the store was open but that the bread was ready. When I stepped inside from the coolness of an October morn, the warmth from the wood-fired oven immediately fogged my camera lens, and the aroma of fresh-baked bread was overpowering. It's easy to understand why the organic artisan sourdough breads baked here sometimes sell as fast as they come out of the oven!
