The Enchanted Village at the Cape Codder Resort & Spa on Cape Cod is a delightful free attraction that delivers a healthy dose of Christmas nostalgia for anyone who cherishes the simple magic of old-fashioned holiday displays. After a December 2008 visit to the annual Enchanted Village with my six-year-old, I'm pleased to report that light sculptures, giant snowmen, twinkling trees and reindeer with bobbing heads can still mesmerize a child, even when her wish list includes a Nintendo DS.
For 2012, the Cape Codder has an Enchanted Village package including $50 in dining, spa and shopping gift certificates available from $109 double occupancy, but you don't have to be a hotel guest to stop by if you're in Hyannis during the holiday season this year. Carolers and Santa appear on weekends November 30-December 23, and the lights will be up through January 2, 2013. Bring a new toy or gift card if you can. Each year, the Cape Codder collects about $10,000 in donations for Independence House.
