Update: I was at Cirque du Soleil's preview performance of "OVO" in Hartford on Wednesday, June 16, and I have to tell you--the show was enthralling from start to finish. I've seen four Cirque du Soleil touring productions in Hartford, and "OVO" was absolutely one of the best: It's sweet and funny, and some of the acts are truly stunning and unique. I don't want to give too much away, but the male performers really steal this show, from the opening acrobatics of the "Twists and Spirals of the Dragonfly" to the "Flight of the Scarabs" (you've never seen big men like this on a trapeze!) to the completely astounding closing act: "Crickets Bouncing Off the Wall." If you're going to see Cirque du Soleil during its Hartford run, check out my 10 Tips for Attending a Cirque du Soleil Performance.

It's not a Big Top, it's a Grand Chapiteau, and it's not just any circus that will return to Hartford, Connecticut, this summer, it's Cirque Du Soleil!

The avant-garde traveling circus founded in Canada in 1984 has impressed worldwide audiences with its mix of circus acts and street performances, amazing acrobatics, colorful costumes and dazzling lights and music. In 2003, Cirque du Soleil made its Hartford debut with "Dralion," and in 2010, the troupe returns to Connecticut's capital city for the fourth time with its latest touring production, the insect-themed "OVO."

"OVO" features more than 50 artists and acrobats from 16 countries. According to a release, "'OVO' is a headlong rush into a colorful ecosystem teeming with life, where insects work, eat, crawl, flutter, play, fight and look for love in a non-stop riot of energy and movement. The insects' home is a world of biodiversity and beauty filled with noisy action and moments of quiet emotion. The hidden, secret world at our feet is revealed as tender and torrid, noisy and quiet, peaceful and chaotic. And as the sun rises on a bright new day, the vibrant cycle of insect life begins anew."

The traveling production of "OVO," which debuted in Montreal in 2009, is the 25th Cirque du Soleil production in 25 years.
