From Joyce Voisine

Want to make a memorable autumn dessert? Try this apple fritters recipe from reader Joyce Voisine, who says, "This recipe was handed down through the family from my grandmother. It was a treat to stay at her house; she loved making all of her 17 grandkids happy. One thing for sure was we always had full bellies."

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg slightly beaten
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup self-rising flour
  • 2 peeled and cored apples
  • vegetable oil for frying

Preparation:

Whisk together the milk, egg, sugar, cinnamon and sour cream. Add flour and set aside. Now, slice the cored apples into rings.

Heat oil in a skillet. Dip the apple rings into the batter, then place in oil and fry until golden brown: a few minutes on each side.

Then, remove apple fritters and place on paper towel to drain. After all fritters are done, arrange on plates with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream, sprinkle with powdered sugar and drizzle with maple syrup. ENJOY!
