I was wrong last week. The fall colors in my view are at their most stunning now, even though winds, rain and frosty mornings have sent some leaves tumbling to the ground. In fact, the whole world seems to gleam, and it's been one of those weeks when I feel remarkably fortunate to live in New England. Driving back to Connecticut from southeastern Massachusetts Monday, I saw dazzling stretches of autumn tints, but there were also trees that seemed not to have gotten the message that it's time to give up their green. Leaf peepers headed this way will still enjoy glorious scenes in southern New England.
