Boston Harborfest is much more than a Fourth of July celebration. More than 200 events highlighting Boston's role in the founding of the United States make this America's Biggest Birthday Party. Events are held around the waterfront and downtown areas and include walking tours of historical sites, lectures, reenactments, outdoor concerts, fireworks and even a Chowderfest. More than half of the events are free.

Legacy of the Hanging Judge

As part of a year-long commemoration of the 200th birthday of Nathaniel Hawthorne, the House of Seven Gables in Salem, Massachusetts will focus in October on the author's ties to Salem and his relation to his great-great-grandfather, who was the "Hanging Judge" of the Salem witch trials. Planned events include lantern light tours and a theatrical production, "Spirits of the Gables."

For nearly 50 years, the LaSalette Shrine in Massachusetts has been a Christmas season destination. Visitors primarily come to see the brilliant light display, but other activities include a display of the shrine's international collection of nativity scenes, afternoon masses, live concerts and a Christmas market.
