10 New England and New York State Events Make ABA's Top 100

Each year, The American Bus Association (ABA) selects North America's Top 100 Events. While the focus is on choosing those events that make great motorcoach destinations, the top events are a diverse selection of festivals and celebrations that you'll enjoy no matter how you get there! This year, the ABA's Selection Committee tapped 10 New England and New York State events for the Top 100 List.

Here's a round-up of the events in New England and neighboring New York that made the Top 100 List:

January 14-17, 2005
Maine Winterfest
Falmouth and Freeport, Maine

Mainers know how to embrace winter, and the fifth annual Winterfest features ice and snow sculpture competitions, a fire-breathing dragon snow slide, music, food and a chance to experience the thrill of a luge run. Chilly? The outlet shops in Freeport are a great place to warm up and save some cold cash.

Connecticut River Eagle Festival

Connecticut celebrates the majestic birds that return to the Connecticut River each winter with a weekend festival that features eagle cruises, demonstrations, lectures and children's activities.

Saratoga Festival and Dressage
Saratoga Springs, New York

This annual event held over Memorial Day Weekend attracts thousands of visitors to Saratoga Springs for a diverse line-up of entertainment that includes costumed horses, leaping llamas and Elvis. A horse expo, horse ballet, antique car show, and 220-vendor arts and crafts fair round out the event.

New Haven's hot summer festival marks its tenth anniversary this year with another impressive line-up of hundreds of arts events including concerts on the green, theater and dance performances, visual arts exhibits, walking tours and more. Most events are free.

Grand Encampment of the French and Indian War
Ticonderoga, New York

This year's re-enactment of the Grand Encampment at Fort Ticonderoga marks the 250th anniversary of the French and Indian War. More than 900 re-enactors will portray British, French, Canadians and Indians, as well as American colonists who fought in the war. The culmination of the event is the re-enactment of the battle of Lake Champlain. Fort Ticonderoga is also open for tours.
