National Geographic Crittercam Exhibition at Mystic Aquarium

See the World Through the Eyes of the Finned, Feathered and Furry

By , About.com Guide

What does a penguin see when it dives beneath the icy surface? How do humpback whales team up to trap tasty fish in a net of blown bubbles? What is the view like as a sea turtle rides the current? Ponder these mysteries of the animal world no more!

Through November 2011, Mystic Aquarium in Mystic, CT, hosts National Geographic's Crittercam exhibit, which brings into focus the scenes our planet's creatures see as they swim, climb, stalk, flee and fly.

These photos from our March 2011 visit offer a preview of the Crittercam experience. My 8-year-old's favorite activity was climbing down into an underwater research vessel to spy on animals through a video porthole. "I got to pretend I was a deep sea explorer," she says. She also "liked going into a bubble where a penguin had a camera around its neck, and it recorded you on a screen."

Visitors not only view amazing footage, they learn about the development of the safe cam technology that provides powerful insight into wild animals' behavior.
