X Games in VT
Mount Snow to Host
2000 ESPN Winter X Games
Dateline: 12/23/99
The fourth annual ESPN Winter X Games, a winter alternative sports championship featuring more than 200 world-class athletes from around the world competing in events such as snowboarding, snowmobile snocross, ice climbing, freeskiing, skiboarding, and snow mountain bike racing, is coming to Vermont February 3 through 6. It's the first time the Winter X Games have been held on the East Coast.
Mount Snow will host the competition as part of a four-year agreement between ESPN and American Skiing Company resorts. Mount Snow will also host the 2001 Winter X Games.
The Winter X Games will be televised from February 4 through 8 on ESPN, ESPN2, and ABC with 18-1/2 hours of original programming. Mount Snow will remain open to all guests during the Games, which will not interfere with the resort's daily skiing and riding operation.
In a press release announcing Mount Snow's selection as the site for the 2000 Winter X Games, Mount Snow Managing Director Scott Pierpont says, "Our location combined with the amenities of the Mount Snow Valley gives us far greater potential for spectators than the Winter X Games has ever seen. We look forward to the opportunity to introduce fans and athletes from around the world to Mount Snow and the state of Vermont."
Mount Snow is home to the East's first snowboard park, the East's first sponsored freeski team, and the East's first major freeski competition. The resort has hosted and produced many previous televised events. It's location in Mount Snow, Vermont, makes it the closest "big mountain" in New England to major metropolitan areas. It's just four hours from New York City and two and a half hours from Boston. Mount Snow has five separate mountain faces with 135 trails, 26 lifts, 12 tree terrain areas, five terrain parks, and two halfpipes.
If you're going... You'll find directions to Mount Snow at the resort's Web site, plus information on area lodging and vacation packages. A special ESPN Winter X Games package is available from February 3 through 6. A two-night minimum stay is required, and prices start at $131. For more information, call toll free: 800 245-SNOW.
