Scenic Calendars for a
Year-Round Tour of New England

Dateline: 12/16/98

New England is a four-season paradise for travelers, from spring's first apple blossom blooms to summer's beachside sunsets to autumn's unparalleled crimson and golden glow to winter's icicled trees and wintry slopes. If you can't get away from it all to New England as often as you'd like, there are a number of wonderful scenic calendars which can transport you throughout the year to some of New England's best-loved spots.

Here's a look at some of my favorite 1999 New England calendars. As a result of a commercial relationship between About.com, its Guides, and Amazon.com online booksellers, calendar titles can be purchased directly from Amazon.com by following the links below. (Note: Amazon.com is solely responsible for fulfillment of calendar orders placed through these links.)

New England calendars are also a great choice for last-minute gifts, and Amazon offers gift wrapping and shopping as late as December 22 for some items with overnight shipping in time for Christmas.

Here's hoping that your 1999 New England vacation dreams, and all of your other fondest wishes, come true in the new year!

NElt.gif (12199 bytes)New England Lighthouses This 8.85- x 6.42-inch wall calendar brings together the work of many talented photographers who capture scenes of New England's historic and landmark lighthouses. From the Highland Light on Cape Cod set against a backdrop of bluest twilight to the Nubble Light in York, Maine, lit up for the holidays to New Castle Light in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, set amongst pink clouds at sunset, to a spectacular shot of Bass Head Lighthouse in Maine's Acadia National Park standing guard on the red-rocky cliffs, lighthouse fans will love each month's image.

yankeecal.gif (23285 bytes)Yankee Magazine's New England Yankee's 1999 calendar captures the essence of New England. Photographer Steve Muskie takes you to a New Hampshire general store, apple picking in Vermont, to Maine's York Beach painted with bright hues at sunset, and to a public library in New Hampshire among the year's 12 destinations.

atlsea.gif (16621 bytes)Atlantic Seaboard If you love everything about the sea, this wall calendar's pages are decorated with photos of lighthouses, rocky shores, fishing gear, boats, seafaring towns, and other uniquely New England watery scenes. You'll almost be able to hear the surf crashing against the beach as you tick off the months in the new year.

WildCT.gif (17874 bytes)Wild & Scenic Connecticut If you're a Connecticut native or resident, you'll be surprised at the diversity within the state that this wall calendar captures. The photographs are incredibly vibrant--from a glowing sunset to a streaming waterfall to autumn scenes to crisp white snow against an azure sky. A number of talented photographers turn their trained eyes to Connecticut's scenic spots, and you're in store for 12 breathtaking views.

Another nice Connecticut calendar to consider is Graphic Arts Center Publishing's Connecticut. From subdued spring scenes to a colorful pumpkin farm in Coventry, this calendar not only depicts some of Connecticut's recognizable places but includes information on the state's history.

WildME.gif (15042 bytes)Wild & Scenic Maine Rich, dark photographs with touches of luminescence make this 1999 wall calendar a unique tribute to New England's northernmost state. As you flip through the months, you'll see Clam Cove at Sunset, Screw Auger Falls in a blur of rushing water, and a cloud-covered Mt. Katahdin in autumn.

If you can be patient...

Two of my favorite New England calendars won't arrive in time from Anazon for holiday gift giving, but your order will still arrive in time to enjoy a full twelve months of colorful New England scenes. Or, you might find these selections at your local calendar retailer.

NEseasons.gif (26937 bytes)New England Seasons This spectacular calendar features not 12, but 24, full-color photos of New England, and the colors in the photographs are the most brilliant of any I've seen in this year's crop of calendars depicting the region. Each month has one main photo and a smaller inset photo in the calendar portion. Overall, the layout and design of this selection is extraordinarily appealing and it's sure to make you homesick if you're a New England native or entice you to make your first visit to the region if you've never been!

boscal.gif (18055 bytes)Browntrout Publishing's Boston calendar for 1999 captures this uniquely American city's architectural diversity and the magnificence of its public buildings and towering treasures.

A few other selections...
