I think it was the
porch. There's definitely something about an enormous wraparound porch that invites you to
linger, especially when it's furnished with crisp white-painted rocking chairs lined up in
a perfect row.

| Either way, what at first seemed to be a
less than perfect August day to visit and photograph The
Grey Havens Inn, located in Georgetown, Maine, instead turned out to be a day when the
lovely 14-room inn, believed to be the last classic "shingle- style" hotel still
in operation along the Maine coast, proved what a great spot it is... even on a gray day. The Grey Havens Inn was built by Walter Reid, who gave his name along with a large piece of his estate to what is now Reid State Park. The park's rocky cliffs and beaches are a must-see for guests of the inn. Shall we venture inside? |

Then
again, maybe it was the view... an island sanctuary so close you could almost imagine
skipping a rock out to its shores and the always in motion ocean rising up against the
sky, the horizon line blending and blurring with greater ease than it does on a day that's
bright and blue.
