The Wall Street Journal reported May 8 that seven paintings by renowned artist Anna Mary Robertson Moses (1860-1961), better known as Grandma Moses, have mysteriously reappeared after a 14-year absence. The paintings were bequeathed to the Bennington Museum in Bennington, Vermont, by the late Margaret Carr of Pennsylvania, but mysteriously vanished from her home and were never turned over to the musuem. On February 9, they were anonymously returned to the museum, which now has them on display with its existing Grandma Moses collection--the largest public display of the artist's works. While you're at the museum, you can also visit the one-room 1834 schoolhouse Grandma Moses and other members of her family attended in nearby Eagle Bridge, New York; it was moved to the Bennington Museum's grounds in 1972. Grandma Moses' life and achievements are captured in an exhibit at the schoolhouse.
