Summer Camp's Not Just for Kids Any More!

Dateline: 05/20/99

So you haven't been away to summer camp since you were twelve? It's time to polish up your old trombone or your dancing shoes and book yourself an adult summer camp experience in Vermont!

Jazz Vermont advertises itself as a "band camp for grown ups." If you can read music (improvisational skills are not required), you're invited to spend a week jamming and swinging with fellow music lovers at the Stratton Mountain Inn in Stratton Mountain, Vermont. Musicians who play trumpet, trombone, saxophone, piano, bass, drums, guitar, or vibraphone are invited to attend, and vocalists are welcome, too! You'll live the life of a musician for five and a half days--grooving and wailing from July 18 through July 23 for a fee of $1,359. Spouses and guests are welcome to accompany you for your week in the spotlight for $695. Prices include lodging, breakfast and dinner, and an audio tape of your big Thursday evening concert performance. You won't even need bug spray! To register, print out the online registration form and mail it to Jazz Vermont along with your check. For more information, contact camp director and creator Byron Siegal via email or call him at (603) 436-0776 or 800 242-8785.

If dancing is your passion, Ballroom Vermont dance camp will give beginning and intermediate dancers a chance to kick up their heels and learn the intricacies of everything from the waltz to swing dancing from July 25 through July 29 at the Stratton Mountain Inn. Byron Siegal is also the creator of this new adult summer camp program, and instructors include Bob Powers and Julia Gorchakova, who have won every major dance championship in the U.S. and Canada and have been national champs for the past six years. The price for the five-day camp is $1,999 for couples or $1,199 for singles, including breakfast, dinner, lodging, group lessons, and dance performances. Private lessons with any of the dance instructors will also be available for an additional fee. Registration requires completion and mailing of a questionnaire and pre-registration form; both are available online for printing. For more information, contact Siegal via email or call him at (603) 436-0776 or 800 242-8785.

Have fun!
