Rating: Four Gold Leaves. Very good.

Three Stanley Avenue offers no-hassle pampering in close proximity to Sugarloaf/USA. Solitude reigns at Three Stanley Avenue--the keys await reserved guests, found in the lock as you arrive (so those coming from far away have no worries about check-in times or fear of waking up tired innkeepers). In fact, it is so quiet we barely saw a soul in the inn.

A series of rooms branch off the entry and stairs, and guests can come and go as they please to their rooms without disturbing one another. Though there is no formal "sitting room" common in most B&Bs, the facility next door in the restaurant (a traditional French-fest not often seen anymore--hallmarked by heavy cream sauces with a local Maine twist and highly recommended) is available.

Hopefully, the exhaustion from incredible skiing sets in and you drift quietly to sleep. Request room #1, a well windowed, high ceilinged room with a lovely wooden bed. A simple and sedate breakfast is cheerfully served in the restaurant, where guests can continue their solitude if they like at a private table.

As a note of caution: the bathroom was a bit chilly, and the hot water sketchy, but otherwise a great stay. Three Stanley Avenue is what it is, and if quiet, simple living is your idea of a vacation, it's the place for you.
