I have camped in several of Connecticut's State Parks, but I must say this was the best one yet. It's perfect.. Anyone who is a scenery
buff must come here!
Our campsite was right next to the river, so not only did we get to hear the soothing sounds
of running water, we had "ringside" seats to watch people go down the river in canoes, kayaks,
and inflatable tubes.
Also, out of all the State Parks I have visited, this one had the cleanest showers
and restroom area. Each day, the cleaning crew washes it down with bleach
and water... there aren't even little bits of paper on the floor!
The park itself is somewhat in the "middle of nowhere," but that adds to the relaxation. There
is a gas station down the road, plus a small grocery store should you forget to bring anything with you.
Located about 2-3 miles north of the park is the West Cornwall covered bridge, which is one of
only two in Connecticut that you can still drive over. The other one is Bull's Bridge, which is about 10 miles or so south of the park.
Kent Falls State Park is about 7 miles south of the park, and there is a hiking trail to the top
of the falls. It's mostly uphill and is about 1/4-mile long, but when you get to the top, you'll be glad you did.
