My husband and I have been to this restaurant five times before, and each time we liked the food,
homey atmosphere, and friendly, prompt service. Recently, we decided to go there to relax and enjoy some good food. Were we in for a big
ugly surprise. Not sure if the chef had changed or management or both.
We both ordered the "Mixed Grill" from the "dinner" section of the menu. The menu explained it as grilled, 6-oz. chicken breast and
5-oz. sirloin tips with grilled veggies, which was supposed to come with a salad, dinner rolls, and
a choice of baked potato, fries, rice, or pasta. My husband and I requested rice. I ordered my steak well
cooked (just like it that way), and my husband ordered it medium.
First our salads arrived. Mine was covered with a great big blob of honey mustard dressing. This surprised me because I surely do not recall it being done [this way] in the past. I like the dressing to be on the side in a small cup or something. And how do these people know how much dressing individuals would like on their salads? I looked over at my husband, and he was busy moving a big chunk of the bleu cheese dressing to one corner of his plate. I followed suit.
We patiently waited for the dinner rolls, which, by the way, did not arrive until 10 minutes after I had to request them. Next came our dinners. I armed myself with a knife and fork and cut into the steak. Blood oozed from the inside. Hmmm I thought I said well cooked. I cut a piece of the chicken and tasted it. It was yucky. Tasted like it had been marinated in really bad balsamic vinaigrette and let to sit for a day and then cooked. The grilled veggies turned out to be heavily oiled and charred onions, bell pepper, and one chopped button mushroom.
There was absolutely no way I could eat that. My husband did not like it either, but he was trying to eat it since he was really hungry. But I guess he too couldn't do it. We summoned the waitress and told her.
<Now comes the worst part of this whole experience please read on .>
The manager came over. She told me that this was their
"best-seller," and they had served at least 40 plates that day and so on
and so forth
. I had to stop her and explain that "we" did not think too much of it and would appreciate not getting charged. She took offense and started talking
again about the fact that it was a best seller. So is she saying that we do not have a
tongue for good food? Well, it definitely sounded like it.
We left aggravated and pretty ticked off. This woman had the capability to provoke our anger somehow. Not only did she
not have any apologies for the fact that we thought the food was bad, but she actually indicated indirectly that we do not
know what good food tastes like. They had a little review form that I wanted to fill
out, but after finding it was going to her and likely to be thrown into the dust bin after that,
I did not bother to fill it out. I simply cannot explain in words how impolite this woman was
to us.
Mixed Grill dinner: 12.99 a plate.
