China Yan Guest Review submitted by: Morla Rating: Four Gold Leaves. Very good.
I must say that I was very pleasantly surprised as I entered what looked like a little "hole in the wall" Chinese restaurant on Central Avenue in Dover, New Hampshire. The restaurant opened very recently, and a sign outside the restaurant advertises a $4.50 lunch buffet including drinks. This alone said to me that it was probably not the best place to be stopping for dinner. But in I went, curious. To my surprise, this was the cleanest, most well kept Chinese restaurant I have ever been in (and I have been in a lot of them). I looked at the menu, wondering if the food was going to be a surprise as well, and it definitely was. I ordered Mongolian Beef, a personal favorite, boneless spare ribs, pork fried rice and, for my fiance, a combination plate that included beef teriyaki, chicken fingers and spare ribs with rice. I was incredibly impressed by the presentation, aroma and taste of every single item. The spare ribs seemed as though they might have been cooked a little longer than necessary, but they were still incredibly delicious. What I couldn't believe was that there were almost no customers in there! A few people here and there, but a place this good should be packed with people. I asked the hostess if they had gotten much business since opening, and she said that they got more business at lunchtime, but not as much as expected. She attributed it to their recent opening, which was only eight weeks ago or so. She was extremely courteous, and the service was fast--10 minutes from the time I walked in to the time I had my food! If anyone has the opportunity to check this place out, do it. I am so glad I did. |
