12/26/98 - Okemo Plans Holiday Week Events
Southern Vermont's Okemo
Mountain Resort has a host of fun events planned for the week between Christmas and
New Year's Day. On Sunday, December 27, sample Vermont maple syrup served atop Okemo's
natural snow during the Sugar on Snow Celebration starting at 11:00 am--free for all ages
inside the Base Lodge. Monday, December 28 is Long Trail
Ale Apres-Ski Party day in the Sitting Bull Lounge and there'll also be a Torch Light
Parade & Fireworks display at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 29 is Open Ski
Race Day and Movie Night featuring It's A Wonderful Life on the big
screen TV in the Sitting Bull Lounge at 7:30 p.m., free for all ages. On Wednesday,
December 30, Okemo features an Okemo
Snowboard Series slopestyle event with a 10:00 a.m. start. Thursday, December 31 is Kids
Night Out featuring evening day care from 6 until 10 p.m. so Mom and Dad can
enjoy an evening out. There'll be a New
Years Eve Teen Dance, too! Also coming up--Poland
Springs Winterfest '99 on Sunday, January 3--a spectacular event with samplings,
giveaways, activities, and an Apres-ski party inside the Sitting Bull Lounge.

Here's a convenient way to stay on top of conditions at some of your favorite New
England ski areas. Boston Sidewalk offers a ski report
email service--you choose how frequently you'd like to receive updates and which
resorts you'd like to follow. Reports are available for Killington Ski Resort, Stowe
Mountain Resort, Sunday River Ski Resort, Wachusett Mountain Ski Area, and Waterville
Valley Resort.

Just found this Web site that lists hostels with accommodations for less than $20
per night near U.S. ski resorts, including some for the New England states and neighboring
New York.
11/22/98 - Cross-Country Escape
The Woodstock
Inn in Woodstock, Vermont, a two-hour drive from Boston, is offering a Cross-Country
Escape package from January 10 to 13 including four days of skiing, accommodations for
three nights, breakfasts, one dinner, ski rentals, three group ski lessons and a guided

Tuesdays are "Aristocrat Days" at Wildcat Mountain in New Hampshire.
Skiers over age 55 pay only $19 for a lift ticket and lesson.

at Sugarloaf/USA, Maine
Sugarloaf/USA is
offering five-day midweek Ski and Stay packages starting at $299.95 per person, including
daily Sugarloaf/USA Sports & Fitness Club privileges and Perfect Turn® adult clinics.
The rate is available for Sunday to Thursday nights, opening until February 11 (except
Dec. 26, 1998 through Jan. 4, 1999) and then again March 21 to May 1, 1999. The same

Thanksgiving Getaway
Enjoy Thanksgiving with all the trimmings, and skiing, too! Southern Vermont's Mount Snow is
offering three-night Thanksgiving packages in conjunction with area inns and hotels;
prices range from $139 to $179. Special Thanksgiving weekend events include a torchlight

11/11/98 - Ski Naked?
The Wall Street Journal reports today that Snowvillage Inn
in Snowville, New Hampshire, will offer "naked cross-country skiing" on weekends
from January to April. The Journal says that getaway packages, designed for
couples and priced at $125 to $250, include "a two-night stay at one of the lodge's
18 rooms, as well as breakfasts and one dinner." Brrr!! For information, call the

11/09/98 - Ski and Stay in NH for
Less Than $70 Per Night
Arthur Frommer's BudgetTravel Online Daily Newsletter reports that Cranmore Mountain Resort in North
Conway, New Hampshire, is offering a room, breakfast and dinner, and a ski pass for $69
daily, Monday through Thursday evenings, December 1 through April 1. Choose from three bed
& breakfast inns, and make reservations directly by asking for the Cranmore Mountain
Resort offer. The three inns are: Cranmore Mountain Lodge (800 356-3596); Sunnyside Inn
(800 600-6239); and Eastman Inn (800 626-5855). Holidays not included. The same package is
available non-holiday weekends for $89.
11/05/98 - Okemo is Open
As of Thursday, November 5 at 9 a.m., Okemo is open for skiing and riding from
the summit, officially launching the season in Southern Vermont. Trails now open: Upper
World Cup, Buckhorn, Count Down, and Drop Off. More to be added! Snowmaking trails open:
Jolly Green Giant, Timberline, Double Dipper, Lower Arrow, Lower World Cup, Sapphire, and
Link. Early season Adult lift tickets are $25 for Adults, $22 for Young Adults, and
