Eagle: In Perspective

american tall ship eagle

Bruce decided to go kayaking in Groton on Sunday morning, while I went to the beach to watch the tall ships depart. This photo, with kayaking Bruce in the foreground and the 295-foot U.S. Coast Guard Barque Eagle in the background, gives some perspective on the size of this grand ship. The Eagle was built in Germany and was one of four German sister training ships built by the famous Blohm & Voss shipyard in Hamburg during the 1930s. Following World War II, Eagle was taken as a reparation of war and sailed to America under the U.S. flag.
