Hartford Toasts Huskies with Parade

Dateline: 04/13/99

The city of Hartford, Connecticut, will celebrate the UConn Huskies' NCAA national championship this Saturday, April 17, with a victory parade through downtown. Official estimates are that 200,000 well-wishers will attend, though Hartford area radio stations are predicting a parade crowd that might approach 350,000.

If you're planning to attend, you may want to arrive in Hartford early to find a good parking place and to make sure you've staked out a spot where you'll have a good view of the winning team. The parade steps off at 11 a.m. from the state Capitol, will proceed north on Trinity Street, east on Jewell Street, north on Trumbull Street past the Hartford Civic Center, east on Church Street, south on Main Street, and then west on Capitol Avenue returning to the Capitol, where the parade will be followed by a rally on the north steps of the Capitol building, including speeches and a special presentation. This map from Yahoo! Maps should help you to get an idea of the general downtown area where the parade will take place.
