Grey Havens bills itself as
"an easy-going, unpretentious place." It's a great home base from which to
explore the attractions of midcoast
Maine-- the shops of Wiscasset, the Maine Maritime
Museum, L.L.
Bean's flagship store in Freeport, museums at Bowdoin College. And even if you never venture further away than the island sanctuary that is so invitingly close (Grey Havens has its own dock and will loan you a rowboat), rocking away a few hours on the porch entranced in the view will take you worlds away. |

fireplace, reading and conversation nooks and crannies, and shelves of books and games.
I also scouted out the
warm, cozy dining room, where guests are served a simple, fresh breakfast each morning.
According to the inn's brochure, "No one cares if you come down for a breakfast tray
in your robe or talk all night (quietly) in the lounge."
