In 1958, the U.S. Department of Agriculture approved the Catskill Game Farm as the nation's first privately owned zoo. Unlike most zoos, the Game Farm provides opportunities to see animals up-close and to interact with them in unique ways. Though some animals are kept caged for their and visitors' safety, others are eager to make eye contact, as it just might earn them a cracker. We couldn't resist offering this camel a snack.
