New England Q&A Archive
Question 9 - July 27, 1999
Hi! This may seem odd, but my husband and I have always wanted to visit Hartford,
and our anniversary is September 25th. I would like to surprise him and visit your town
then. BUT... I know nothing about this area and would like some info if you could send
some brochures. We both love antiques, festivals, old homes, etc. He likes seafood. Could
you send me any info or brochures? I would be so grateful. If we do visit, it would only
be for the weekend, as our jobs and expense is a problem.
Thanks,
Deb
Answer from Kim Knox,
About.com Guide to New England for Visitors:
Hi Deb!
I don't think wanting to visit Hartford is odd at all! :-) I've lived here for 2-1/2 years
now, and it is a lovely area. I'm not sure if you know this, but I also produce
About.com's local site for Hartford. While it's
new and far from being as "built up" as I'd like, it may help you with some
ideas to get started in planning your trip.
As for brochures, those would have to come from one of the regional tourism
organizations--I'm just a humble freelance writer, I'm afraid! :-) You'll find some
resources for requesting free
Connecticut brochures online on my New England site.
I know your time in Hartford will be limited, but do try if at all possible to tour Mark
Twain's home. The tour is wonderful, and you'll love this historic home where Twain wrote
some of his most famous novels. You'll find more information, along with other Connecticut
sightseeing suggestions, at: http://gonewengland.about.com/msubctst.htm
Deb, I hope that helps to get you started. Please don't hesitate to write again as you
begin to make more definite plans if there are any more specific questions I might be able
to help you with.
All best wishes as you plan your trip,
Kim Knox
