Question 40 - June 22, 2000

Hi,
I am going to be visiting New England this August (Aug. 25 - Sept. 3). Since it's only for a short time, could you tell me which are the really good and important places to see? The Web has so many options and recommendations that it can become overwhelming. Could you recommend some sites that you wouldn't miss for the world?

Thanks
Kedar S.

Answer from Kim Knox,
About.com Guide to New England for Visitors:

Hi Kedar,

It is truly difficult for me to make recommendations since I don't know you very well! :-) There are certainly many wonderful places to visit and things to do and see in the New England region during that last week in August regardless of what your interests are. I don't know how helpful this will be, again, knowing nothing about what you desire in a travel experience, but I'll provide you with my Top Ten list of the places in New England that *I* would choose to go to during the last week of August, and maybe that will help to get you thinking.

1. Lake Winnipesaukee area, New Hampshire

2. Newport, Rhode Island

3. Mystic, Connecticut, including Foxwoods Casino

4. Salem, Massachusetts

5. Lenox, Massachusetts including lawn seats for a concert at Tanglewood

6. Millinocket, Maine, on a Moose Safari!

7. Providence, Rhode Island, for WaterFire

8. Block Island, Rhode Island

9. Plymouth, Massachusetts

10. Boston

I invite you to post your question on the New England Forum so that you'll get additional suggestions from others. You'll need to create a user name and password for yourself in order to post.

All best wishes,
Kim Knox
