Question 13 - August 9, 1999
I did not make it last year to Indian summer! How are the predictions for this
year? I am particularly interested in peak foliage of Maine and New Hampshire! I would
have to travel on my own. Do you know whether there exists a black board or anything like
that where one can contact people who are interested in hiking during Indian summer?
Thanks for your help!

Answer from Kim Knox,
About.com Guide to New England for Visitors:
Hi Daniel!
Sorry to hear that you did not make it to New England last autumn. We have had a terribly
dry summer here, and unfortunately, that may not bode well for our foliage season this
year. Only time will tell, though! Peak foliage in New
England works it's way down from the north. The further north you go--the earlier the
peak. For Maine and New Hampshire, you are probably looking at anywhere from the last week
of September through the first week of October. Once the season is up and running, you can
access "Leaf Alerts" from New England Foliage
Central on my Web site.
There is actually a Bulletin Board/Forum associated with my
New England site, and you are more than welcome to post there in search of some fellow
hikers. You will need to create a login identity and password for yourself the first time
you visit in order to post a message.
Good luck as you plan your trip!
All best wishes,
Kim Knox
