Highfields, the hotel's restaurant, offers a mix of fine dining and affordable, a la carte menu selections to fit family budgets. Traditional New England dishes are a specialty.
With the exception of its dinosaur elevator, the Eagle Mountain House has fully modern amenities including in-room telephones, cable television and free Wi-Fi. The staff, however, seems like a holdover from an earlier era. The service is so friendly and helpful from the moment you arrive that you may find yourself anxious to check your email just to make sure you didnt inadvertently exit the 21st century when you crossed the covered bridge into Jackson.
The Eagle Mountain House's long history of hospitality began when the inn was merely a farmhouse with rooms for a dozen overnight guests. The hotel grew to accommodate 125 travelers before a devastating 1915 fire leveled the main inn building. Today, guests stay in the replacement structure built in 1916. You could stay at the Eagle Mountain House and never realize one interesting tidbit--each room in the hotel has an owner. Unlike a timeshare, the rooms are owned year-round, and owners, who pay a monthly maintenance fee, have access to them as often as they'd like. They then share in the income from each night the room is used by other guests. Because only 4 percent of room nights are actually used by owners, according to Assistant General Manager Greg Forrest, there is ample availability for other guests to enjoy all of the warmth and charm of this historic hotel. Formation of an owner's association in 1986 has proven a successful means of preserving this landmark hotel so that new generations can enjoy a grand getaway.
