Question 33: Hayrides in Massachusetts

By , About.com Guide

February 3, 2000

Hi! I love your information. My question is:

I am getting married in Lexington, MA, on Oct. 21, 2000. We thought it would be wonderful for the Friday night rehearsal dinner to be a hayride hopefully with a bonfire and a place where we can also go inside to eat,sit and enjoy ourselves. I have guests coming in from CA, New Mexico, Washington, NY, NJ, and GA. We want to show them an autumn New England time. The whole wedding theme is autumn in New England.

I have been going nuts trying to find a place near Lexington that has hayrides and facilities for bonfires with an barn or something similar. Since I moved here myself from NJ very recently I am not familiar with geographic nearness of different cities near Lexington, but we can't really travel a far distance. I was hoping there was someplace in Concord or nearby or someplace?

Can you help me?
Signed,

Answer from Kim Knox,

Hello, Jeanmarie!

Wow! It sounds like you are really planning quite an event!

The first place that comes to mind that may be able to put together something like this for you is the Nashoba Valley Winery in Bolton, Massachusetts.

They do customized weddings, and I'll bet they'd be willing to work with you on a customized rehearsal dinner. The contact is Cindy Rowe Pelletier at 978-779-5521 ext. 12. The orchards would certainly be an appropriate place for a hayride, and they may know of a local horse stable that does that sort of thing. There is also a restaurant on the premises.

Other than that, there are a couple of other apple orchards not too far from there that do offer hayrides in the fall, and they may be able to recommend a caterer that could serve dinner on site if they have facilities to seat your party. Here are the Web sites for two that I know of:

Tougas Family Farm in Northborough, MA

Marshall's Apple Farm in Fitchburg, MA

Not sure about this one, but here's another possibility I found in the Mobil Travel Guide:

Drumlin Farm Education Center
Lincoln (Concord area), MA
781-259-9807
They list hayrides among their offerings, but I don't know much more about them. Right location, though! :-)

You might also want to call the Concord Chamber of Commerce - 978-369-3042 or the Lexington Chamber of Commerce - 617-862-1450 to see if someone there might have some ideas for you.

Best wishes for a beautiful wedding in New England!

All best wishes,
Kim Knox
