Check Fall Foliage Conditions with these Autumn Views from Central Connecticut

By , About.com Guide

Updated October 31, 2012
Do you wish you lived in New England and could watch the leaves turn from vibrant summer green to subtle flecks of gold to full-blown red and orange? Are you planning your own fall foliage visit to New England this autumn and finding yourself longing for a preview of what you'll see?

You're in Luck!

Each week or so, I'll post a new photo of the view from my window, giving you a timely and authentic look at the progression of the fall foliage season and an update on current foliage conditions. And each photo will be archived here, so autumn's changing hues will be just a click away as the season progresses. Make a cup of hot tea or cider, and wherever you are in the world, sit back for a moment and glance through a New England window at the glory of the annual onset of fall. Enjoy!

The Hartford area was largely spared the impacts of Superstorm Sandy, and in this final photo of my fall foliage view, you'll see superleaves that held on through near-hurricane-strength gusts. I hope Mother Nature's power and beauty inspire you to plan a 2013 New England fall foliage trip. Thank you for sharing this season--and all of its surprises--with me.

Here's a look at the calm before the Frankenstorm, as I anxiously await Hurricane Sandy's onslaught. Compare it with this view from a year ago today, and you'll understand why I'm thinking perhaps I should plan to spend October 29, 2013 in a different part of the world!

The trees in my view are starting to show their bones, alas! But on this gray day, I'm amazed by the rich late autumn colors that persist.

You may be surprised by how vibrant my view remains this week! Leaves have thinned, but they simply gleam, and leaf peepers bound for southern New England this weekend are in for a treat. My niece is getting married here in Connecticut Saturday, so I'm hoping she'll have an incredible fall day. Showers: Please, stay away!

If you look at only one image of the view outside my window this autumn season, this is the shot that will impress you! Colors are as vivid as they're likely to be, and the rain ebbed just in time for me to show you the dazzling copper and gold leaves illuminated by lazy, late-afternoon sun.

Brace yourself! There's dramatic change in the view from my office this week, and if you ask me, it's all happening too fast! Columbus Day Weekend leaf peepers will be in for a treat pretty much wherever they roam in New England. It's definitely starting to look like fall here in Connecticut, but there's still more color to come.

You'll spot the first splash of orange in my view this week, but the good news for those of us who love autumn is: Fall seems to be progressing exceedingly slowly here in Connecticut, even though nights have turned decidedly cold. We've had such a run of spectacular autumn days, it's tough to sit at my desk. Hope you're headed this way to savor New England's ultimate season.

You'll see storm-cleansed leaves that remain summery green in this latest look at the view outside my office window. I'm just back from the Adirondacks, where foliage was beginning to put on a show, and with daytime and overnight temperatures cooling, it won't be long before we see dazzling colors here in Connecticut.

Back in 1999, when I first began sharing weekly photos of fall colors changing outside my window, I was a single woman, living in an apartment, totally blown away that I could snap pictures and save them directly to a floppy disk! Now, as I walk my almost-10-year-old daughter to the school bus on mornings that have suddenly turned cool, much has changed, but I am as giddy as ever to be sharing the season I adore with readers all around the world. Leaves are lush--both up north and here in Connecticut, as you'll see in this first photo of the view outside my window for the 2012 foliage season. It's just one of the signs that we're in for a spectacular autumn in New England.
