As a native of New York's Hudson Valley, I must say that New York can rival New England for copious fall colors. Here are some New York fall lodging ideas:

The spectacular 1915 Bear Mountain Inn is set in the beautiful surroundings of Bear Mountain State Park in Harriman, New York. The inn is currently closed for renovations but anticipates reopening by fall 2009.

The Desmond

The Glenwood House
Located near the Pennsylvania border in Pine Island, New York, this 1855 Victorian farmhouse B&B has a gracious front porch where you can sip cider and enjoy the autumn views. For a romantic fall escape, book the Harvest Moon Suite. Located in a separate guest cottage on a hill, the suite features a gas fireplace and a two person hydro-massage whirlpool tub. Breakfast in bed is available for an additional fee.

High Peaks Resort
See the brilliant fall colors of the Adirondacks from this convenient home base in the heart of Lake Placid. The hotel's Peak Views Golf Packages feature the opportunity to play at a choice of four courses. Check rates at Kayak.com

River Edge Mansion Bed & Breakfast
This historic inn is located on the scenic Erie Canal near Oneida Lake, just minutes from Syracuse, New York.
