If you're heading for Mohegan Sun, why not stay for a day or two and explore some of the other attractions nearby in Connecticut and Rhode Island. Here are a few suggestions:

Foxwoods Resort Casino
If you need to change your luck, Connecticut's other casino, Foxwoods, is a short 15-minute drive away.

Mashantucket Pequot Museum & Research Center
Explore the rich history of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, the histories and cultures of other tribes, and the natural history of southeast Connecticut.

Atlantic Beach Park at Misquamicut
This Atlantic Ocean beach with a kiddie amusement park, carousel, batting cages, miniature golf, and more is located about 45 minutes from Mohegan Sun. The beach is open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.

Captain John's Sport Fishing Center
Captain John's in Waterford, Connecticut, offers deep sea fishing and nature cruises including whale watching excursions, harbor seal watches, bald eagle watches, and lighthouse cruises.

Children's Museum of Southeastern Connecticut
Located in Niantic, Connecticut, this children's museum has hands-on, educational activities and exhibits for kids of all ages--even a Nursery Rhyme Land for toddlers.

Connecticut Wine Trail
Follow the Wine Trail for a sampling of some of the region's most delectable wines--and an added bonus--glimpses of some of the most beautiful countryside in the Northeast! Three of the featured wineries are within easy driving distance of the Mohegan Sun casino.

Essex Steam Train & Riverboat
See New England and the scenic Connecticut River the old-fashioned way.

Florence Griswold Museum
Florence Griswold was the benefactor behind America's best-known impressionist art colony in Old Lyme, Connecticut. Today, the museum in Old Lyme houses a permanent collection of American art and also features changing exhibits. The museum is open year-round.

Historic Submarine - USS Nautilus
The Submarine Force Museum and the historic USS Nautilus, the first nuclear powered submarine, are open to the public year round in Groton, Connecticut.

Leffingwell House Historic Museum
Visit the former home of Revolutionary Patriot, merchant, industrialist, and entrepreneur Christopher Leffingwell in Norwich, Connecticut. the historic home is open May 15 through October 15, Tuesdays through Sundays, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Mohegan Sites
Learn more about Mohegan tribal culture at a number of nearby attractions including the 1827 Mohegan Church and Tantaquidgeon Museum in Uncasville and the Royal Mohegan Burial Ground in Norwich.
