Fall foliage draws thousands of visitors to New England each year, and this year, you can combine a day trip or weekend autumn outing in Maine, Massachusetts, or New Hampshire with a visit to one of three fall quilt shows--a perfect opportunity to purchase a classic New England handmade gift for a memorable holiday or winter wedding gift or for your own impending winter hibernation.
The first show, the Leaf Peepers Quilt Show, is October 2 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Alfred Parish Church On the Green at the intersection of Routes 202 and 4 in Alfred, Maine. The show will feature new and antique quilts, a Merchants Mall, refreshments, and door prizes. Admission is $3.00. The show is handicapped accessible. The Concord Piecemakers present A Harvest Quilt Show on Friday, October 22 from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. and on Saturday, October 23, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at St. Matthew's United Methodist Church, 435 Central Street, Acton, Massachusetts, located at exit 41 off Route 2. Members will display quilts, and there will be other vendors, a gift shop, a quilt raffle, a homemade cookie sale, and children's activities. Admission is $4.00, free for children under 12. The third show is the Cocheco Quilters' Guild's 18th annual quilt show, "Every Day Is a Holiday." The show runs Saturday, October 23 and Sunday, October 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at Rochester Community Center on Wakefield Street in Rochester, New Hampshire. The event features a large display of quilts, a Quilters' Penny Sale, a Merchant Mall, a quilt raffle, demonstrations, "Meet the Quilter," and a food concession. A special exhibit on Mystery Quilts will also be part of the show. A one-day pass is $4.00; a two-day pass is $6.00. The show is handicapped accessible.
