Peak Places for Columbus Day Weekend

By October 9, 2013

Follow me on:

New Hampshire's Lakes Region, particularly around Purity Lake... Northern Maine coast destinations from Camden to Calais... The southern Berkshires in western Massacusetts... Connecticut's Litchfield Hills... New York State's Albany and Saratoga Counties.... These are some of the best places to find peak or near-peak fall foliage conditions if you'll be traveling in the Northeast over the Columbus Day holiday weekend. Keep in mind that accommodations may be tricky to find if you have not yet made reservations for the always popular holiday weekend. Take a look outside my window for a glimpse at autumn colors that are hurtling toward their peak.

Use my Leaf Alert guide to find online foliage reports for all of New England and neighboring New York State, or call one of the region's toll-free hotlines for current foliage reports and travel suggestions before you hit the road this weekend. Keep in mind that a crunchy hike in the fallen leaves can be as much fun as seeing the leaves in all of their glory, plus there are some great festivals and other events happening during Columbus Day Weekend in New England.
