Where to Spy Colorful Leaves This Weekend

By September 25, 2013

Follow me on:

The upcoming weekend will feature spectacular leaf-peeping weather, with sunny blue skies and seasonable temperatures in the forecast for most of New England. The northernmost regions of Maine are more than halfway dressed in their autumn clothes, and foliage colors are also very pronounced in New Hampshire's Great North Woods, particularly around Pittsburg. It'll be a colorful weekend for a drive through Moose Alley, and Tall Timber Lodge has just a few rooms and cabins still available for this weekend if you want to peep at near-peak leaves. Head to the northernmost parts of Vermont--and the highest elevations, too--if you're hoping to see vibrant fall color. The K-1 Gondola ride at Killington should afford some pretty views. Over in New York State, the Adirondacks are your best bet for seeing emerging autumn hues.

Use my Leaf Alert guide to find the latest online foliage reports for the New England states, plus neighboring New York, or call one of the region's toll-free hotlines for up-to-date foliage information and forecasts before you hit the road this weekend. And be sure to make lodging reservations in advance if you'll be spending the night: Hotel availability is often scarce in New England as the leaves begin to turn.

Can't get away this weekend? As you'll see from the latest view outside my window, there's still more fall color to come.
