Boston Reopens, MBTA Service Restored, Suspect in Custody

As of 6 p.m. April 19, the shelter in place directive for the city of Boston and the suburbs of Watertown, Waltham, Newton, Belmont, Cambridge and Brookline (see map of this area) has been lifted. A day-long manhunt that began in Cambridge overnight concluded with apprehension in Watertown of the remaining at large suspect.

Transportation: "The T is open effective immediately. We are asking the public to remain vigilant," said Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick in a Friday evening press conference. Taxi service in the city of Boston was restored earlier in the day. Amtrak train service is restored on a limited basis between Boston and New York and will operate normally on Saturday, April 20. Megabus service between Boston and NYC is shut down and passengers may reschedule free or receive a refund; Megabus service will restart on Saturday. All Greyhound bus service in and out of Boston is canceled. The FAA has issued flight restrictions over parts of Boston. Boston Logan Airport is open and operating under heightened security. Call your airline to verify your flight's status. Airlines waiving or relaxing change fees for flights to/from Boston today include: jetBlue, US Airways, Southwest and United.

Events: The Red Sox and Bruins games have been canceled for this evening, April 19. The Bruins game has been rescheduled for Saturday, April 20, at 12:30 p.m. Boston Comic Con is postponed until a later date to be announced. Big Apple Circus shows are canceled, and tickets may be exchanged.

The New York Times reports that one suspect in the Boston Marathon bombing tragedy, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, has died, while the other, his 19-year-old brother Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev (pictured), was found hiding in a boat in Watertown and captured Friday evening.UMass Dartmouth in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts, where the suspect was enrolled, was closed Friday, and the campus was evacuated. UMass Dartmouth will remain closed on Saturday, April 20.
