Columbus Day Weekend's Peak Places

By October 3, 2012

Follow me on:

The western mountains near Bethel, Maine... Along Route 100 in south-central Vermont... In New Hampshire's White Mountains, where it's a wonderful time to drive the Kancamagus Highway, and reports say the colors are more spectacular than travelers have seen in years... Along the Mohawk Trail in western Massachusetts... In the High Peaks region surrounding Lake Placid in neighboring New York, where there are still a few rooms available at High Peaks Resort....

These are some of the places where you're likely to find peak or near-peak fall foliage conditions if you'll be traveling in New England over the Columbus Day holiday weekend. Keep in mind that accommodations may be tricky to find if you have not yet made reservations for the always popular holiday weekend.

Be sure to use my Leaf Alert guide to check online foliage reports for all of the New England states, or call one of the region's toll-free foliage hotlines for up-to-date foliage reports and forecasts before you hit the road this weekend.

Also, be sure to take a look at the fall festivals and events happening in New England this Columbus Day weekend for additional travel inspiration.

Can't get away this weekend? As you can see from the latest view outside my window in Connecticut, there is still color yet to come.
