Suddenly, It's Snowliage Season!
Friday October 16, 2009
I haven't seen snow in October since my college days, when the famous "Snow Leaf" storm blanketed the Hudson Valley, and believe me, that was quite a few years ago. So, while my daughter ran around catching snowflakes on her tongue and shouting, "This is awesome!" yesterday, I grabbed my camera and shot a few video clips of this rare phenomenon. Watch as the autumn foliage receives a startling coating of early winter white. What Does This Mean for the Foliage Season? Well... it's not over 'til it's over. The good news is, this light snow was less damaging to leaves than ice or heavy winds, and of course, not all of New England saw snow from this storm, so there are certainly still colors to see. Check the latest New England foliage reports, and enjoy all of the other reasons to love autumn in New England.
And, if you love snow, grab your skis! For the third consecutive year, Maine's Sunday River ski resort is the first to open in New England, and they have one lift and one trail in operation.
