Where to Find Leaves This Weekend
Wednesday October 1, 2008
The upcoming weekend will feature perfect leaf-peeping weather, with partly sunny skies by day and cold snaps at night forecast for most of New England. Bethel and other western Maine towns will be sporting dazzling peak colors this weekend, and colors will also be quite impressive in New Hampshire's White Mountains region. Vermont is predicting peak viewing conditions in the central part of the state and the Northeast Kingdom (it's a great weekend to take your pup to the Dog Chapel), and vibrant fall color is also emerging along Route 4 between Killington (don't miss the K-1 Gondola ride) and Woodstock.Use my Leaf Alert guide to find online foliage reports for all of the New England states, plus neighboring New York, or call one of the region's toll-free hotlines for up-to-date foliage reports and forecasts before you hit the road this weekend. And be sure to make lodging reservations in advance if you'll be spending the night; hotel availability is often scarce in New England as the leaves begin to peak.
Can't get away this weekend? As you'll see from the latest view outside my window, there's still more fall color to come.
