Doris Duke Jewelry Auction Set for June 2-5

Wednesday May 26, 2004
Diamond, pearl and platinum tiara by CartierLast year, I took you along with me to view the special exhibition of Doris Duke's jewelry at her Newport mansion, Rough Point. Now, Christie's is set to auction off these magnificent jewels June 2-5 in New York City. As per the heiress's wishes, the proceeds will benefit the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. Learn all about Doris Duke, who inherited her family's $80 million fortune when she was only 13, and look back at my article about the jewelry exhibition for a peek at some of the stunning pieces to be auctioned. Then, if you have a few extra thousand dollars sitting around, you can even browse through the auction catalog and make a bid online.
