Maine Voters Reject Indian Casino Proposal
Wednesday November 5, 2003
Maine voters overwhelmingly said "no" yesterday to a proposal to allow construction of the state's first Indian casino. That's good news for the Indian casinos in New York State and Connecticut, including Foxwoods, the world's largest casino. It's bad news, though, for Maine's Passamaquoddy and Penobscot Indian tribes, which had hoped to build a 200,000-square-foot casino and 875-room hotel.
